Durante el Imperio Romano la homosexualidad fue una práctica aceptada sin ser vista negativamente principalmente en la Edad Media, sin embargo, tomó un revés cuando el emperador Justiniano comenzó a perseguir esta inclinación sexual.
En la etapa del imperio, la pederastia y los matrimonios entre personas del mismo sexo fueron permitidos, puesto que las actividades dentro de la vida privada no eran un tema concerniente al fuero penal.
Hasta la adopción del catolicismo, el Imperio Romano, que había heredado la cultura de los helenos, también aceptaba el sexo entre hombres siempre y cuando se contemplara y apegara a las leyes que lo regían.
Con el paso del tiempo la prostitución homosexual llegó a ser una práctica habitual que existía en baños públicos, donde los hombres acudían a tener sexo, llegando a tener códigos gestuales o de vestimenta para mostrar que buscaban relacionarse íntimamente con otros.
Pero la llegada del catolicismo condenó este tipo de ‘comportamientos’ y comenzaron a ser considerados tabús que, todavía en la actualidad, se mantienen.
