La bandera que representa a todos los colectivos que integran la comunidad de Lesbianas, Gays, Bisexuales, Transexuales e Intersexuales (LGBT) llegó por primera vez en 1978 para demostrar la unión y la complementación de una sociedad sin discriminación.

Pero cada uno de los grupos tiene su propio estandarte identificativo, en el caso de las lesbianas, están representadas por la Bandera del Orgullo Lésbico, la cual fue diseñada por Mercedes Díaz Rodríguez.

El símbolo fue electo durante un concurso que se llevó a cabo en 2011, en el que participaron centenares de lesbianas, pero la votación del jurado se inclinó por el diseño de la española.

En el estandarte figuran dos símbolos de Venus, que representan los femenino, un triángulo negro invertido, para conmemorar a las víctimas de los campos de concentración durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial y de fondo un color violeta que representa el movimiento feminista.

Michael Page, diseñó la bandera del orgullo bisexual en función de representar a la comunidad bisexual. Previo a su creación ya se utilizaban algunos elementos como triángulos y azul sobrepuestos, que no funcionaban como bandera o eran marcas registradas.

La bandera del orgullo bisexual apareció por primera vez en el aniversario de “BiCafe” el 5 de noviembre de 1998.

Page se enfocó en ofrecerle a la comunidad bisexual su propio símbolo, así como la bandera del arcoíris que engloba a toda la comunidad homosexual. Asimismo, la bandera surgió para maximizar la visibilidad de la comunidad bisexual dentro de las comunidades homosexual y heterosexual.

Este símbolo que representa a la comunidad bisexual está conformado por tres franjas horizontales, dos franjas de dos quintos de la vaina en los bordes superior e inferior y una de un quinto de vaina en la parte central.

Este símbolo, desde su creación ha sido un emblema significativo para esta comunidad, así como también de todas las personas que desean respaldar la libertad sexual de las personas.

La bandera del orgullo bisexual está conformado por el color rosa, que representa a la “homosexualidad”. El segundo color es el azul, que representa la “heterosexualidad” y el color morado, representa la mezcla.

Miles de personas homosexuales fueron víctimas del nazismo y no escaparon de atrocidades que se cometían en los campos de concentración. Pese a que el objetivo principal del Tercer Reich eran los judíos, la población homosexual también fue perseguida.

Cuando Adolf Hitler estuvo al frente del poder en Alemania, usó un triángulo color rosa para identificar a los homosexuales en los campos de concentración y, además, empleaba uno amarillo para superponer encima del rosa y marcar a los homosexuales judíos, considerados los más bajo y lo peor en calidad de prisioneros.

Pensaban que los homosexuales eran débiles y no podrían defender la nación, al ser considerados lo peor, estaban expuestos a tratos crueles e inhumanos, en mayor escala que el resto de los confinados, eran torturados, abusados sexualmente y sometidos a experimentos hormonales “para tratar la enfermedad” y modificar su comportamiento.

Al caer el nazismo, los homosexuales siguieron expuestos a discriminación y malos tratos, aunque no estuvieron expuestos a la violencia física o verbales, eran considerados “delincuentes con antecedentes sexuales”.

No obstante, tras años de lucha, en 1970 la comunidad de Lesbianas, Gays, Bisexuales y Transexuales (LGBT) empezó a usar el triángulo rosa como reconocimiento a las víctimas homosexuales del Holocausto.

La Bandera de Orgullo Gay, con una diversa gama de colores que representa cada una de los colectivos que integran la comunidad de Lesbianas, Gays, Bisexuales, Transexuales e Intersexuales (LGBTI), con el paso de los años se ha convertido en un símbolo de lucha, respeto y tolerancia a la libertad de pensamiento e identidad.

En 1978, el activista y diseñador Gilbert Baker, creó la bandera después que Harvey Milk, uno de los líderes del movimiento LGBTI en aquel entonces le encomendara la labor de realizar un símbolo que identificara a la comunidad en general.

En sus inicios, la bandera estaba compuesta por ocho franjas de diferentes colores, el rosa, que representaba el sexo; el rojo, la vida; el naranja, la salud; el amarillo, la luz del sol; el verde, la naturaleza; el celeste, el arte; el azul, la serenidad; y el morado era sinónimo del espíritu humano.

Sin embargo, un año más tarde decidieron eliminar el color rosa por ser difícil de adquirir en la época y, posteriormente se quitó el celeste, porque al exhibirla en los postes no se apreciaba debido a la luz. De esa manera se crea la bandera que se conoce actualmente.

Se usó por primera vez el 25 de junio de 1978 en el festival del Orgullo Gay de San Francisco. Hasta la fecha se sigue haciendo presente en las manifestaciones de la comunidad LGBTI y, aunque cada uno de los colectivos tiene su propio símbolo de identificación, todos se unifican dentro de la Bandera LGBTI.
